Lightsource bp, a company specializing in the development and management of solar energy projects, has signed a Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA) with Verizon Communications Inc. for the construction of a new 152.5 MW AC solar farm in Indiana enables Verizon's goal to be carbon neutral by 2035.

The Bellflower solar farm, located approximately 40 miles east of Indianapolis in Counties Henry and Rush, is expected to be operational in 2022.

“Verizon's corporate sustainability commitment is driving the development of clean and affordable energy sources in the US that benefit all of us,” said Kevin Smith, CEO of Lightsource bp in America. “Together we will reduce the CO2 emissions from power generation for the entire network and at the same time offer considerable local economic advantages. Adding initiatives to improve local biodiversity further multiplies the sun's contribution to preserving our planet for future generations. “

Bellflower Solar is expected to generate $ 30 million in property tax revenue over its lifetime for Rush and Henry Counties, which will benefit local schools and other public services. The project will create around 250 jobs during construction, with local labor and service requirements included in the construction contracts. The operating budget for the project of $ 2.4 million per year will be spent primarily in the region.

An action plan to improve local biodiversity is in progress for Bellflower Solar.
