ORLANDO, Fla. – Great strides have been made in recent years to make better use of the power of the sun.
In 2019, solar accounted for 45% of the added capacity worldwide. In 2020, sun and wind became the cheapest source of electricity for two thirds of the world. The cost per megawatt has dropped from more than $ 300 per megawatt to less than $ 30 per megawatt over the past decade.

Where solar energy shines
If you look at the days with sunshine, you'd expect the Southwest to do well with solar and be a leader in solar jobs. Because of the sun exposure and physical size, Texas and California lead the way in the country.
But Florida also wants to do very well in the solar industry. Job changes are projected to increase by 21 per 10,000 people over the next 30 years.

And even parts of the country that aren't leading the way in sunshine have received that turn to solar power, which will create more jobs. The manufacture of solar modules and devices will actually surpass solar construction orders.
