Caterpillar will begin offering generator sets that run on 100 percent hydrogen, including fully renewable green hydrogen.
They will be available on an order basis by the end of 2021; however, the company will shortly launch commercially available power generation solutions that can be configured to run on up to 25 percent hydrogen mixed with natural gas.
Cat already has a “Hydrogen Solutions Portfolio” that includes Solar Turbines' gas turbine generator sets, which have been running on high blends of hydrogen for decades and can now run on 100 percent hydrogen.
“At Caterpillar, we work with our customers to understand their needs and they look for reliable power sources that support their climate-related goals,” said Joe Creed, Caterpillar group president of Energy & Transportation. “Our continued investment in new products, technologies and services is one way we can support you with the quality solutions you can count on from Caterpillar.”
With up to 100 percent hydrogen reciprocating engines, Caterpillar is building on its legacy in gas engines and solar gas turbines with more than 35 years of experience with hydrogen-rich fuels.
