This is in line with the global sustainability commitment of the beauty leader L'Oréal for the Future, which states that all locations operated by L'Oréal worldwide must be CO2-neutral by 2025. With this announcement, the US subsidiary achieved this goal four years ahead of schedule.

“L'Oréal's sustainability ambitions are a transformational effort that has touched all departments and has become a source of pride, inspiration and education for all of our 11,000 US employees,” said Stéphane Rinderknech, President & CEO, L'Oréal United States of America. “Our brands and products are some of the best known in the world and more than 2 out of 3 products we sell The United States are made here. Our customers can be proud that their products are made in facilities that use 100% renewable energy. While we are proud of these achievements, we know that this is not enough to cope with the moment we are in today and we must keep pushing forward to face the climate crisis head-on. ”

L'Oreal United States of America Achieved carbon neutrality for Scopes 1 and 2 emissions across its total US footprint through a strategy that includes:

1) Energy optimization

L'Oreal United States Manufacturing facilities have taken measures to reduce energy consumption, ranging from switching to LED lighting to more specialized equipment such as highly efficient air compressors and vacuum pumps.

In 2016, L'Oréal United States of America joined the US Department of Energy's (DOE) Better Buildings, Better Plants program to optimize energy savings. Through this program, L'Oréal United States of America Gained access to DOE's performance measurement tools, energy analysis, and experts to identify new opportunities for energy savings, and share knowledge and best practices with the DOE for the greater benefit of manufacturers across the country.

L'Oreal United States of America was also named Green Power Partner of the Year 2017 by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). L'Oréal has been an Energy since 1996 Star partner with the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and a member of the EPA's Green Power Partnership.

2) Direct renewable energy projects

Seventy percent from L'Oréal United States Locations have on-site projects for renewable energies. L'Oréal USA is consistently ranked among the top 25 companies for total US solar capacity by the Solar Energy Industry Association (SEIA). Since 2005, the company has installed more than 50,000 solar panels across the country for a total of 97 miles.

  • The largest commercial solar system in Kentucky – L'Oreal United States of America built the largest commercial solar system in Kentucky at its Florence Haircare manufacturing facility, which provides 1.4 MW of electricity from 4,140 solar panels. This 686,000 square foot facility is the company's largest manufacturing facility in the United States and the largest in the world by tonnage produced.
  • An early commitment to solar energy in Arkansas – L'Oreal United States of America was one of the first large corporations to focus on solar energy Arkansaswhere it built the third largest solar array in the state in 2017. The 3,600 solar panel installation now provides 1.2 MW of renewable energy for its 450,000 square foot factory in North Little Rock, one of the company's leading cosmetics factories worldwide.
  • Renewable energies in L'Oréal United States of America Administrative Offices – In 2012, L'Oréal United States of America installed solar panels in his Berkeley Heights office. The building, which was already LEED Gold certified, provided 60% of the office's energy needs with renewable energy and charging stations for electric vehicles for the employees.

3) Local Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs)

To make up for the difference between on-site solar capacity and usage, L'Oréal has strict parameters for purchasing RECs. All certificates must be sourced locally to ensure that the company is driving system change by expanding renewable energies in the local communities in which it operates. RECs must be assigned to a local or semi-local renewable energy project in the vicinity of the location where they are used. With this approach, L'Oréal aims to meet the demand for increased renewable energy supplies in the countries in which it operates. These RECs were generated by several wind, hydro, and solar energy projects across the state California, Florida and new York.

4) Renewable Natural Gas (RNG)

L'Oréal uses in-house gas to heat the room and hot water. To address the company's gas usage, L'Oréal United States of America Locations obtain RNG from landfill gas projects in Texas and new York which capture and convert methane, which is produced during the natural decomposition of organic materials. These projects are turning an otherwise wasted resource into pipeline-quality RNG that replaces the use of fossil natural gas.

Started in June 2020 As the next phase in the global beauty leader's sustainability ambitions, L'Oréal for the Future represents a radical transformation of the company's global business that includes ambitious goals for 2030 and 2050 – all of its products' footprints and consideration for their own.
