Ameresco Inc., a clean technology integrator specializing in technology efficiency and renewable energy, has achieved a commercial operation at its Tiverton, RI solar facility and mechanical completion at its Cumberland, RI facility
Ameresco's Tiverton solar energy site was installed on a former grain field and comprises over 12,000 modules with a power generation capacity of 4.95 MW. By implementing these solutions, it is expected that Rhode Island Airport Corp. (RIAC) realized annual cost savings of approximately $ 380,000 in its first year of operation. The solar facility in Cumberland was not yet in commercial operation and installed over 14,000 modules with a power generation capacity of 5.71 MW. Annual cost savings of approximately $ 410,000 were achieved in the first year.
RIAC has entered into a long-term agreement with Ameresco as the designated purchaser of the clean energy generated at both locations. RIAC has long supported the development of a variety of sustainable resource and environmental programs designed to minimize the potential adverse effects of airport operations.
Both solar sites further strengthen Cumberland and Tiverton's commitment to implementing environmentally conscious solutions. Over the years, Cumberland has prioritized various sustainability initiatives by installing energy efficient technologies in public buildings. Tiverton has established local conservation and recycling commissions dedicated to educating the community.
“Our projects in Cumberland and Tiverton are excellent examples of the economic and environmental benefits that renewable energy solutions offer our customers,” said David J. Anderson, executive vice president and director, Ameresco. “By developing and implementing over 10 MW of power capacity and generating over $ 790,000 in annual energy savings, these projects represent a renewable energy source that directly drives the state's commitment to clean energy expansion in its renewable energy portfolio.”
Commercial operations of the Cumberland Project are expected to be completed in April.
