Consolidated Communications will present its high-speed internet proposal on February 4, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. CET. Consolidated Communications is one of the ten largest fiber optic providers in the United States and currently provides landline telephone service and limited Internet access to the Rangeley area. Consolidated's proposal would allow anyone in Sandy River Plantation, Rangeley Plantation, Dallas Plantation, and the city of Rangeley to access Internet services at symmetrical speeds of up to 1000 Mbps (1 gig upload and download).
The broadband proposal will be presented through Zoom and every plantation and town in the Rangeley area has nominated representatives to participate. This zoom presentation is also available to the public. If you are not available to enlarge on February 4, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. and reliable high-speed internet is important to you, tell your assessors or selectmen of your interests. The Zoom ID is available at townofrangeley.com under Calendar.
In addition to announcing the Broadband Proposal meeting, the Rangeley Selectmen addressed the following points at their brief 17-minute meeting on January 19, 2021.
Approval has been given to spend up to $ 15,000 from the Sanitary Sewer Reserve account to replace the VFD. The VFD is the motor control for snowmaking, with which the treated wastewater from the wastewater treatment plant in Chick Hill can be converted into snow for use in the spray fields in winter. The current VFD does not work reliably and is a bit out of date. The new VFD will have the capacity to power four more snow guns, which will be needed as the amount of wastewater to be processed increases.
The Selectmen authorized the city administrator to enter into an agreement with Maine Land Consultants to survey the 2.5 acre transfer station land that will be transferred to the Rangeley Firemen's Association. The land transfer to the Fire Brigade Association was approved by the voters at the 2019 annual meeting. The Firemen's Association and the city agreed to split the cost of the Maine Land Consultants survey of $ 2,000.00 equally. The land is being used to build a structure for Rangeley's early fire fighting equipment and a picnic area for the associated fire department social events.
Revision Energy notified the City of Rangeley that the solar project at 35 East Ridge Road, Skowhegan, Maine, is mechanically complete and capable of providing electrical energy. The project received approval to operate with a commercial operating date of 12/30/2020. The city of Rangeley signed a solar energy purchase agreement with Revision Energy on May 29, 2020 to obtain 85% of the city's electricity needs from this facility in Skowhegan. The city manager will meet with Revision Energy to find the best way to budget for this year's solar power bills.
The next meeting of the Board of Selectmen will take place on February 1, 2021. The agenda for this meeting will be posted at the city office, post office and on the city's website townofrangeley.com.
