Hitachi Capital, Hitachi Asia and SANTEC begin their cooperation
to advance the solar power generation business in Thailand

Contribute to the installation of commercial renewable energy systems

Tokyo, December 25, 2020 — Hitachi Capital (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (President: Tomoki Ariizumi, ‘HCT'), a subsidiary of Hitachi Capital Corporation (TSE: 8586, President and CEO: Seiji Kawabe, ‘Hitachi Capital'), Hitachi Asia (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (Managing Director: Yoshihiro Sugeta, ‘Hitachi Asia (Thailand)'), a subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (TSE: 6501, President and CEO: Toshiaki Higashihara), and SANTEC POWER SOLUTIONS CO., LTD. (Director: Masamichi Imoto, ‘SANTEC') today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (‘MOU').

Three companies will sponsor the installation of commercial solar self-consumption equipment within the Hitachi Group in the Kingdom of Thailand (“Thailand”) on the basis of the Memorandum of Understanding. As a first step in the cooperation between three companies, it is planned to install the solar self-consumption devices on the roof of the gateway plant (Chachoengsao, Thailand) of Hitachi Automotive Systems Asia, Ltd. and start generating electricity from the end of March 2021. In addition, the business will be expanded to Japanese and local companies in Thailand in the medium to long term.

In recent years, given the growing global climate problem, there has been a growing trend towards practically zero greenhouse gas emissions in order to achieve a decarbonization society. In Thailand, the Electricity Development Plan provides that 33% of renewables will account for 33% of total electricity generation capacity in 2037. On the other hand, there is a need to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in business operations through self-consuming renewable energies such as solar energy generation are increasing.

With this collaboration, HCT, Hitachi Asia (Thailand) and SANTEC will continue the installation of solar self-consumption devices within the Hitachi Group in Thailand. The customer can install renewable energy without their initial investment and will make the payment according to the amount of solar power generation. These three companies are aiming for a power generation capacity of 10 MW by 2023.

As a power producer, HCT concludes a power purchase agreement (PPA) with a customer and installs solar self-consumption devices including panels on the roof of a business office or factory, and sells all electricity generated.
Hitachi Asia (Thailand) will take the lead in project management as the project leader and deliver the Advance Solar String inverter and energy management system to achieve the goal of a smart, sustainable society with green energy.
As a construction and maintenance company, SANTEC offers services from a single source – planning, procurement, construction and maintenance. SANTEC is a subsidiary of the SANKO Group, which has a great international track record in the field of solar energy and industrial systems. SANTEC will use the knowledge and experience of its group to carry out trouble-free and high-quality construction and maintenance work.

Hitachi Capital Group developed and operated its solar and wind power plants and installed the solar self-consumption equipment in a company that seeks decarbonization with PPA in Japan. This is the first time Hitachi Capital Group has stepped into solar self-consumption solutions overseas. Hitachi Capital Group is taking this opportunity in Thailand to accelerate its solar self-consumption solutions worldwide and help build a decarbonization society.
Hitachi Asia (Thailand )’s mission is to develop and expand the Hitachi Group's business in Thailand. Solar power generation will be part of his solutions to expand our business with social innovations.
SANTEC has been offering its solar energy solutions since 2018 and will make a contribution to society as a member of this collaboration in Thailand, where the renewable energy business is to be increasingly expanded in the future.

HCT, Hitachi Asia (Thailand) and SANTEC will help solve the customer problem by pursuing the solar self-consumption solutions and realize the decarbonization society in Thailand by expanding this business to the whole country.
