Exide Industries and Leclanché SA's 0.52 megawatt hour on-grid system will pave the way for wider adoption of grid-scale energy storage technology across India.
DELHI, INDIA, YVERDON-LES-BAINS, Switzerland March 27, 2021 – Nexcharge was inaugurated today in partnership with Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd (TPDDL) India's first grid-tied Li-ion battery-based Community Energy Storage System in Rani Bagh, Delhi. The 0.52 MWh battery energy storage system in the Rani Bagh substation by TPDDL offers a mechanism for tip shaving, var compensation and deviation accounting based on the frequency response at substation level with emergency power supply for preferred consumers in the event of a power failure.
Speaking of initiative, Stefan Louis, CEO and Head of Technology at Nexcharge said: ‘Battery-based energy storage (BESS) offers the flexibility to better integrate intermittent solar and wind energy resources into the Indian power grid and ensure high quality power supply for consumers. The camp was inaugurated by Shri Satyendar Kumar Jain Hon. Minister for Power, PWD, Health & FW, Industry and Gurudwara Elections, Govt. from NCT of Delhi in the presence of Stefan Louis, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Technology Officer -Nexcharge, Ganesh Srinivasan- Chief Executive Officer – Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited.
Comment on the start, Mr. Ganesh Srinivasan, CEO of Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited said, ‘We are proud to partner with Nexcharge to deploy the country's first Grid Connected Community Energy Storage (CESS) systems at the community level. This will further strengthen our network and guarantee our consumers a reliable, high-quality power supply at all times. Instead of building a huge infrastructure of transformers and electrical devices, CESS can be used to meet peak demand while storing excess electricity. I believe that a broader introduction of such a “CESS” will help to balance the load curve of discoms and make them sustainable. ”
