New Delhi: Ride Hail Major Ola said on Wednesday that he had teamed up with Siemens to use its technology in the upcoming electric vehicle manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu. In December, Ola announced an agreement with the Tamil Nadu government to invest Rs 2,400 to build its first electric scooter factory in the state.

“Ola's factory will be built according to the principles of Industry 4.0 and will be the most advanced production facility in the country. Almost 5,000 robots will be used in various functions,” said a statement.

As part of the partnership, Ola will have access to Siemens' integrated design and manufacturing solutions for ‘Digital Twin' to digitize and validate products and production prior to actual operation.

A digital twin is a virtual representation of a physical product that can be used to understand and predict the performance characteristics of its physical counterpart. Digital twins are used to simulate, predict, and optimize the product and production system before investing in physical prototypes.

“The factory will be equipped with artificial intelligence, with Ola's proprietary AI engine and tech stack deeply integrated into every aspect of the manufacturing process, continuously self-learning and optimizing every aspect of the manufacturing process,” said Ola.

This will provide unparalleled control, automation and quality to the entire operations, especially through Ola's implementation of cyber-physical and advanced IoE systems.

Ola said all material handling in his factory would be fully automated for maximum efficiency – from raw materials to material movement within the factory, to storage, to the finished scooter rolling off the production lines and being loaded onto trucks.

“These advanced technology systems blend seamlessly with Ola's workforce and provide the perfect synergy between man and machine working together to build the most efficient production system and deliver the highest quality products to Ola's customers,” he added.

The factory is expected to create nearly 10,000 jobs and an initial capacity of 2 million units per year. It will serve as Ola's global manufacturing hub for its customers in India, as well as key markets in Europe, the UK, Latin America and ANZ.

“Ola is excited to partner with Siemens to build the most advanced manufacturing facility in the country. This will be our global hub and set the standard for quality, size and efficiency. This shows that India is capable of cutting-edge products world-class building, “said Ola Chairman and Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Bhavish Aggarwal.

Sunil Mathur, Managing Director and CEO of Siemens India, said the company is a global leader in Industry 4.0.

“We are proud to use our automation and digitization skills to contribute to Ola's vision of creating a factory of the future to ensure maximum productivity and quality while enabling an agile and flexible production process,” he added .
