What is sleek like a super toy, uses solar power all at once to run for seven days, cleans manholes in 30 seconds and documents the process with a camera? Xena 6.0, the new cleaning robot recently deployed by Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC). This wonder machine of Rs 42 lakh made by Club First Robotics Pvt. Ltd. proves to be pioneering in sanitation. It enables efficient cleaning of the manholes.

“Traditional degumming and super suction machines for clearing manholes use a lot of fuel. Xena 6.0 is an electric vehicle that uses solar energy and can be electrically charged. This is also good from a conservation point of view, ”says Dharmesh Rana, Executive Engineer (Mechanical) at VMC. He mentions that the diesel supplies for super vacuums and desilters incur weekly expenses of around 9,200 rupees.

The GPS-enabled, waterproof all-terrain equipment, a donation from Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd. to the VMC, has helped the citizenry cut fuel and staff costs. “Xena 6.0 can submerge in the mud, detect different gas concentrations and warn people to stay away when it is dangerous,” said Bhuvanesh Mishra, Managing Director of Club First Robotics, adding, “The VMC only takes one person to man Xena 6.0 in contrast to the four people who are required for the other machines. ”

He can also work in narrow alleys that were previously inaccessible to the bulky machines. Currently, a single robot in Vadodara works without any challenges. The operation of Xena 6.0 was implemented a few days before Vadodara in Surat. Rana is looking forward to the changes that the environmentally friendly model will bring with it. As Xena 6.0 can be used in agriculture and rescue operations, this innovative machine holds great promise for cities across India.

How does this SCAVENGER work?

✥ The work of Xena 6.0 replicates dialysis technology

✥ An attachment is lowered into the mud where it is
collects and recycles the waste internally

✥ It then holds back the undissolved materials like plastic bottles and rocks while the rest is left in the sewer

✥ The filtered particles are collected in a storage tray and then transported to a landfill
