“As we see a growing trend towards using solar panels on rooftops for commercial buildings, the Delta M50A Flex is designed for a variety of commercial rooftop applications. With its improved functions to get more energy out of your PV roof and additional safety features such as arcing faults and reverse polarity detection, it simplifies the work of EPCs, makes solar installations easier and safer and offers commercial building owners improvements in energy costs, “said Andreas Hoischen, Senior Director, Photovoltaic Inverters Business Unit at Delta EMEA.
Flexible PV rooftop system design
With its six MPP trackers, the M50A is aimed primarily at complex roof-top systems and gives the system planner more flexibility in the arrangement of the modules and the distribution of the module strings. In addition, the entire input voltage range extends from 200 to 1000 VDC, with the inverter withstanding input voltages of up to 1100 VDC without damage.
The anti-PID function (potential-induced degradation) helps the system operator to avoid this negative effect and the resulting loss of performance of the solar modules. Relevant for lightning protection on building roofs are the newly available type 1 + type 2 AC + DC surge protective devices (SPD), which can optionally be ordered as a replacement for the pre-installed type 2 SPDs.
Other new and interesting features and functions are data point acquisition for string monitoring and generation of IV curves, reactive power compensation around the clock, arc fault detection and reverse polarity protection.
The M50A Flex comes with the standard RS485 interface and also offers an integrated wireless Sub-1G communication port and optional Wi-Fi.
Improved form factor, less weight, easier installation
The heavily revised mechanical design leads to an improved degree of protection IP66, a significant weight reduction from 15% to 64 kg and more space for laying the AC cable inside the inverter.
