The Modi government established Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evem Utthan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) taking into account the areas in which the electricity crisis is occurring. Under Kusum Yojana, it is planned to run all diesel / electric pumps that are used for irrigation nationwide with solar energy. The government has encouraged farmers to implement various solar energy programs. The registration process for the ambitious Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha of the central government against Utthan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) has already started in many states in order to supply agricultural solar pumps with a 90% subsidy. The official website of PM KUSUM is finally opening and the government has asked farmers to apply online. PM KUSUM 2020-21 aims to provide around 20 lakhs of solar pumps nationwide to eliminate all farmers' water problems.
What is the purpose of PM Kusum yojana?
Farmers in India are faced with many irrigation problems and farmers' crops are damaged due to more or less rain. The central government's Kusum program allows farmers to irrigate their fields by installing solar panels and pumps in their land. With the help of the Kusum program, farmers can install solar panels on their land and use the electricity generated from them for agriculture. An uninterruptible power supply can be started in the village of the country by the electricity generated on the farmer's land.
How is the government preparing for the PM Kusum program?
As part of the Kusum program, three Crore irrigation pumps in the country will run on solar energy instead of electricity or diesel by 2022. According to the budget set by the government, a total of 1.40 billion rupees will be spent on the Kusum program. Of the total spending on Kusum Yojana, the central government will contribute 48,000 crore rupees, while the same amount will be provided by the state government. As part of the Kusum program, farmers only have to pay 10% of the total cost of the solar pump.
New functions of PM KUSUM 2020-21
* The government intends to distribute 27.5 lakh solar water pumps among farmers.
* 17.5 Lac pumps are installed off-grid to meet the irrigation needs of farmers in remote locations.
* Farmers can sell excess solar power generated off-grid to DISCOMS to earn Rs. 60,000 annually per acre.
* 10 Lacs pumps will be installed in locations where the grid is available, as well as solarization of existing pumps.
* Grid-connected solar power plants with an output of up to 2 MW each are installed in rural areas.
Subsidy structure of the solar scheme
As part of the program, the farmer receives grants for new and improved solar-powered pumps. Farmers only have to spend 10% of the total to buy a solar pump, and 60% of the cost is covered by the government and the remaining 30% is borrowed from the bank.

What is Eligibility for PM Kusum Yojana 2020-21?
Applicants should be farmers and have a valid Aadhaar card in their name. Farmers must also have a valid bank account.
